Prunes have been a staple of American food consumption since the mid 1850s. Nearly 70% of prune production is done in the United States with California as the main supplier, providing over two-thirds of the world market. Prunes have high antioxidant content and are also high in fiber, vitamin A, and vitamin B6. Prunes are primarily known as a helpful digestive and are also recommended to prevent heart disease because of their amino-acid content.
