Dates have been a staple of Middle Eastern cuisine for thousands of years dating as far back as 6,000 BCE. The top producers of dates are Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran, the UAE, Algeria, Pakistan, Sudan, Libya, and Iraq. Because of their long history and prevalence, the uses for dates are many and varied, from consuming the simple fruit to stuffing it with walnuts or almonds. Dates have a high tannin content giving them many traditional medicinal applications.
