Cashews are unique in their natural form because the seeds grow below the pulp filled fruit of the tree, called the cashew apple. Cashew trees are indigenous to Brazil but are also cultivated in many other countries. Many parts of the plant itself can be used for medicinal purposes ranging from stopping tooth decay to anti-venom for snakes. The leading producers of cashews in the world are India, Côte d'Ivoire, Brazil, Vietnam and Indonesia. Cashews are very high in protein, fiber, potassium, and B vitamins.
