Brazil Nuts are one of the largest varieties of consumable nuts on the world market today. Despite their nomenclature, the leading producer of Brazil Nuts is Bolivia, with nearly half of all commercial nuts gathered in the region; other notable producers include Brazil and Peru. Brazil Nuts must be gathered from the wild because current production methods on plantations make their commercial cultivation outside of pristine forests economically infeasible. Brazil Nuts are high in protein, carbohydrates, and are almost 70% fats, making them an ideal substitute for macadamias in many recipes.
